Good morning,
Found your site and have spent a very enjoyably hour reading over it. I haven't turned since junior high school and after attending several craft and art shows here in the Georgia mountaoins this fall am thinking of getting back into the hobby.
I plan to get together with a turners guild member upon returning to our winter home in Florida. Needless to say I'm starting all over agian so instruction from an expernced turner will be in order.
I would like you opinion (honest) about the Delta 12-460 midi lathe for a starter tool. From the research I've done it appears to be a solid unit and quite capable in it's class. Whadda ya think...? Of course I'm open to all suggestions since I'm not going to purchase a lathe untill later this year. (hellllloooo Santa)
I enjoy your site.
Regards,
Jerry

JOHN LAMACRAFT

YOUR ARTICLE IS MOST INFORMATIVE. AS AN EMPLOYEE AND TEACHER OF WOODTURNING AT WOOCRAFT IN GREENVILLE S.C. I WOULD VERY MUCH LIKE TO USE IT AS A HANDOUT TO TURNING STUDENTS. IF YOU AGREE TO THIS NOTHING WILL BE CHANGED, YOU WILL RECEIVE FULL CREDIT FOR THE WHOLE COMPOSITION.
YOU ARE TO BE COMMENDED FOR SUCH A CONCISE AND SPECIFIC DISERTATION, EVERYTHING THAT A NOVICE WILL ASK HAS BEEN ANSWERED IN ITS CONTEXT, YOUR EXPLANATION OF THE COSTS IS MOST APPROPRIATE, AND ONE THAT I TRY TO FOLLOW WHEN DISCUSSING THE PROSPECTS OF TURNING TO SERIOUS FUTURE TURNERS.
CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE PRODUCED A FINE COMPOSITION.
REGARDS, JOHN LAMACRAFT.

Very nice site Neal!!!
I have copied your article about getting started in Woodturning for a friend of mine who is considering buying a lathe and turning Pens.

I really enjoy your hollow forms, especially those with contrasting woods. And you've created some of the best finials I've seen!!

I've been turning part-time for several years but haven't attempted any "real" hollow forms (one vase with a copper insert). I'm hooked on turning also but would appreciate any hints on HFs such as your favorite tool for hollowing.

Best Regards,

Wow! I was hesitant to even go thru these pages because most are written in some some foreign language. But this tutortorial is easy to read and understand. I can take away and actually use many of the ideas presented. You should receive an award for helping out the novices. GREAT JOB and Thanks! Where DID I put that camera anyway?

laurie
