Building a Captive Rig

Building a Captive Rig System

This captive rig system was built for me by a turning buddy. Those with metal working capability may find it of interest.

The rig fits any standard 3/4" boring bar and works well with my Don Pencil Stinger/Scorpion hollowing system. Total material costs for the D-handle, laser, laser arm, and a (spare) boring bar was under $80.

Note that the backrest was manufactured by Monster Lathe Tools.

The D-handle dimensions:
Outer bar (1) - 17"L x 3/4"W
Inner (boring) bar (1) - 18"L x 3/4"W
Boring bar socket (1) - 2-1/4"L x 1-1/16"W (bored to 3/4")
Cross bars (2) - 6" x 3/4"
